Resize a video for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts and WhatsApp Status
Reels, Shorts and Status all expect a 9:16 vertical video at 1080 × 1920. A landscape clip posted as-is gets letterboxed and looks like an afterthought.
Quick answer. Open Video Resizer, drop the clip, pick the "Reels / Shorts / Status · 1080 × 1920" preset, choose Fill & crop (and where to crop from: centre, left or right), and press Resize. For footage that must not be cropped, choose Pad instead. The export runs on your device; the video is never uploaded.

Step by step
- Open Video Resizer and add the video.
- Pick the Reels / Shorts / Status preset (1080 × 1920).
- Choose Fill & crop and set Crop from so the subject stays in frame; or choose Pad for black bars.
- Press Resize, download, upload to Instagram, YouTube or WhatsApp.
Tips that save a second attempt
- Walk-through footage shot landscape usually crops well from the centre; drone shots often look better padded.
- Keep Reels under 90 seconds and under 1080p; trim first with Trim Video.
- Instagram re-compresses everything. Export at High quality so there is headroom.
- Square posts: use the 1080 × 1080 preset; YouTube: 1920 × 1080.
Frequently asked questions
Will the resized video lose quality?
Re-encoding at High quality is visually identical for social use. Cropping actually removes pixels rather than stretching them, so sharpness is kept.
Can I resize several videos?
One at a time at the moment; each one takes about as long as it plays on a laptop.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Resizing runs in your browser on your device.
